I have to disagree here, having worked on both, I found that having an
18-cell was adequate for most tasks, even in the work environment, it
only lacks some in using it as a computer display.  I found that I could
read as fast on an 18-cell as I normally read paper braille, averaging
about 35 pages per hour.  
Of course, one consideration for me is that I read one-handed (left) so
I can do other things with my dominant right hand.  
I love the 32 display also, but I am perfectly happy with the 18-cell
too.

As for 18 cell compared to 32 cell. The 18 cell, in my humble opinion,
doesn't give you enough braille at a time to really read. If you only
want braille for very occasional work it might be ok but if you are
using this on a job or for real braille reading 18 cells is just
insufficient.
