Both the Kurzweil 1000, and Openbook support such conversions.  Also,
there is a program I believe it's called Text Out Loud that does the
same thing.
What is happening is that synthetic speech is "reading" if you will, the
text and it is recorded as an mp3.

I don't understand!
An mp3 file is a completely different thing from a txt file.
An mp3 file is a media file, as in a recording.
You can get cds converted into mp3 files, but how in heck would you get
a text file converted into an mp3?
It's a completely different thing as far as I know.
