Hi. One thing Mike fails to address is why moving about 100 feet, i.e.
specifying an address at the nearest cross street, caused poi's to
appear. At 4357 Linchmere, no poi's within 20 miles, but 100 feet away, on
Janice Place, I get the poi's that Mike mentions in his message. I have
also found cases where moving the starting address by about 100 feet,
either enhances or destroys the route creation. Moving from 1794 Ridgewick
Drive, Wickliffe, Ohio to 1606 Ridgewick caused the software to say,
"Unable to create route."
I respect the fact that anyone can mis-spell a word, put data in the wrong
folder, etc. However, such simple troubleshooting just points out huge
bugs! How can moving 100 feet suddenly bring poi's into view, and such
movement cause a completely different route or no route at all?
Thanks,
Doug

Hi Doug,
I asked Mike May to comment on your original post pertaining to this thread
and he forwarded the following reply:
Hello Doug,
Well, your ranting was heard to NZ and Dean has called me in to respond.
I
don't monitor this list but one of us from Sendero Group will in the
future.
There is little difference between Virtual and GPS modes in terms of
creating routes. The difference is that in virtual mode, you the user
establish your starting position.
Regarding address matches: As we describe in the manual, there are
several
items to try if your city, or street name does not come up on the first
try. Admittedly, this could be made simpler and we hope to address this
in
the future so to speak. However, I dare to say that 95% of addresses can
be
pulled up or something pretty close. You will have more success if you
spend some time with the address matching part of the manual. For
Sendero
Group customers, we will research a troublesome address and make some
suggestions.
I had perfect matches when entering Clayton as the city and Linchmere as
the street name. Perhaps you put in a space or extra character. It
worked
fine for me. Near your old address, 4357, I found the following points
within one mile, Meadowbrook Golf Course, Bob Evans restaurant, and Old
Country Buffet. From 1 to 2 miles, I got 38 points.
Take heart, most addresses can be pulled up with a little persistence
and
if yours isn't in the database, please don't take it personally. I
recommend contacting tech support since these situations are specific to
each user and not a general problem.
Regarding finding points of interest: What you describe tells me that
your
POI folder is not designated properly. If you don't find any points
nearby,
go to the GPS Options menu and set the POI folder to the folder that
contains your points. Normally, this would be the POI folder on the
Storage
card or compact flash card. All 50 states and then some should have a
state
POI folder in there like OH.bpi.
FYI, there should be a folder called Maps which has 5 files in it for
each
state. Make sure that is set up correctly too.
Hope this helps.
Mike
