Hi Paul,

I'm not Dean, but you don't have to leave it on.  What can happen though is 
that you may have a transfer fail with a large file if you don't turn it off.  
Personally, I have it on and only experienced problems with file transfers of a 
meg or more, so it probably depends on several variables in your system.  

If you're going to use a pcmcia or flash card, I really would recommend getting 
a card reader for around 40 bucks and tranferring files that way.  

I do use activesync a lot, but pretty much for files of 1 or 200 K such as 
braille books.
