Greetings,
Well once I saw that price of $149, I decided to buy from the
site mentioned earlier in this thread. That site, just to remind
everyone, was http://www.gooddealpc.com. Also, they had an IR port for
$32 so I bought one of them also.
I want to point out two items that shouldn't necessarily
discourage anyone from purchasing items from this web site. Perhaps one
should merely have their expectations set properly.
1. I actually took the time to read their terms. Under the section on
returns and refunds they basically state that you can get a refund of
the going market price (not to exceed the invoice price) of an item you
return. Effectively, if the going market price drops between the time
you order a product and the time you return it, you'll lose out on your
refund. If the price goes up, you won't make any money. This seems a
bit odd especially in light of the fact that I don't have a clue who
establishes the going market price for any given item. Hence, one has
to wonder if anyone ever gets a full refund even though they might be
entitled to one. Though there are several situations in wich their
terms clearly state that there will be no restocking fee, this little
loophole could be used to effectively charge something. I'm not really
expecting to want a refund on my microdrive and IR port, so I went ahead
anyway.
2. They clearly state that, within an hour of placing an order, one will
receive a confirmation e-mail. Well, I think it's rediculous for anyone
to make a claim of such incredible turn around times, but it is now one
day later and I haven't received a confirmation e-mail. This could be
for any number of reasons including:
* I mistyped my e-mail address (any site that really needs your e-mail
address should make you enter it twice). Since they don't have a "check
your order" link on their web site, they really do need to confirm with
customers that all is going well!
* They're having e-mail problems.
* Order processing is backlogged.
* Any number of other issues.
Again, very unlike my normal way of doing things, I wrote down
my order confirmation number so can call them and confirm via the
telephone that all is well.
I'm hoping that all will be well because the prices for items on
this web site are really pretty amazing!
John

I bought a Toshiba 5-gig micro drive for my husband for $165 plus $11
for shipping costs at http://www.gooddealpc.com so if they still have
them, you might check it out. I have one that I bought a little over a
year ago for myself and I've had no trouble with it at all.
I just looked on the web site myself and the darned thing is $149.99.
If I didn't have one, I'd grab it!
