This is correct, except that you do not have to copy your backup of the Address
List definition file because there's a copy of that in the Keylist folder of
the Flash Disk, plus another in the Windows folder of the Keysoft Systems Disk
which is burnt into ROM. Unless, of course, you are using a customized version
of the Address List definition file, like I and a few others on this list do.
The Address List.cdb file will be the database file containing all previously
saved data.
Now Karen, if you made a backup of the Keylist folder, that .cdb file should be
there still, but you must make sure that you are viewing all, including hidden,
files (press SPACE with X or READ with X at the file name prompt) when you
check the backup. Note also that when you view the contents of your backup
folder, let's say it's called February 20, 2004 backup, you will not
automatically see that file. It is in a sub-folder of that backup folder.

However, I wonder if you wish to restore the contents of your e-mail and
Directory of Services databases (as well as your browser history). If so, then
I suggest that you use the Restore option of the Utilities Menu. Press U from
the Main Menu then B, R. Select the drive where your backup folder resides.
When asked for the folder to be restored, press SPACE with T (CTRL with T) and
type in computer Braille:
/February 20, 2004 backup/Keylist
where February 20, 2004 backup should be replaced by the real name of your
backup folder, and remember that the slash is dots 3-4. Hit ENTER. Next, you
will be asked to which drive it will be restored and select the Flash Disk.
You may be prompted that some files exist and asked to verify if you wish to
overwrite them. Unless you have stored new data in the e-mail or Directory of
Services or Address List database, or have browser history records you wish to
keep for some reason, press A to replace all. Otherwise, like in the cases I
have mentioned, press N to the prompts about replacing existing files, and Y to
those that you want to be restored.

HTH,
Roselle

>Hi Karen,
>When I got my BN back from being upgraded, I didn't have the chance to restore
>any files because, not having expected for the unit to have stopped working, I
>had not backed up; however, since the whole purpose of backing up is so you
>can restore all your files, including databases, it seems the BN would just
>recognize your database once you've re-installed it, and you would proceed as
>if you would never lost it in the first place. To restore the database, you
>need to restore two files. They are both in the KeyList folder; one is a
>KeyList definition file called "Address List", which contains the field names,
>their sorting order, and such, and the other is a file called "Address
>list.cdb, which stores all your actual records. Select the "Move File" (or
>"Copy File" if you want a copy on your Backup folder, although the file on
>backup won't be modified along with the one on the Flash Disk unless you back
>it up again) option from the File Manager Menu. When selecting a Sour!
ce Drive, choose "CompactFlash" if you've backed up on a CompactFlash card, or
select "Storage Card" if it's on a PCMCIA card or disk from a disk drive.
Whatever you use, you select the Source Folder where you have the Backup. Make
sure you're in Directory Mode on the BN because you will need the KeyList
sub-directory of your Backup folder. On the BN, once you select your backup
folder in directory mode, the BN will prompt you "Directory? /was and the
folder you've selected; instead of pressing ENTER, select the KeyList
sub-directory in the same way you selected your backup folder, and when you're
prompted, once again, for Directory, press ENTER. If, on the first Directory
prompt, you get a slash followed by another folder, you can just step back
views (BT command SPACE with dots 2-3) until you get to just a slash. You'll
get a list of files which is fine when copying the Address List definition
file; go through until you find the file called "Address List", and if you !
want to make sure it's the right file, request information ab!
out it, and the first part of the information should say "KeyList Definition
File". Press ENTER, and for the Destination Drive and Folder, choose "Flash
Disk" and "KeyList" respectively. The BN will say "1 File Moved", so you now
have to copy the Address List.cdb file. Follow the same procedure, but when
you get to the list of files, you have to select another view the "List of All,
including Hidden, Files" (BT command SPACE with X), to get to the file you
need. It will appear in the list with its extension of CDB, so you will know
you have the right file. You move it to the KeyList folder on the Flash Disk.
If you now go into the Address List, it should most likely resume with the use
of that database as if you would never lost it. HTH.
