Hi Paul, What you need to do is to change the name of the smtp server. As an example, the name for the standard smtp server at earthlink is smtp.earthlink.net and that's what I use on dialup and dsl.
On the bn entry for accessing the network I set it up using the earthlink authentication server which is smtpauth.earthlink.net and I got that info from their tech support. Also, when you use the authentication server, you need to set authentication to yes which is an option a couple down from where you specify the smtp server. At least in the case of earthlink, authentication is only required when you are attempting to send email through an earthlink server from outside of the earthlink network which would be the case if accessing from gprs or also a network in some place such as a hotel. I'm only familiar with how earthlink handles people attempting to send mail on outside networks connected to earthlink, so I really can't say if their procedure is typical or not.
