Hi, Maria. I called Al at tech support and showed him this. He tried it as
well and said he couldn't edit the number either. When I brought my phone
list over from outlook, it took the area code and put it into parentheses
followed by a space then the number with a dash after the first three
numbers as you would expect.
The problem is that since outlook did this, I am trying to be consistent
and continue to put the area code in parentheses. What happens is that I
get the prompt, but then only the area code with parentheses shows up
because there isn't room for the rest of the phone number. I suppose I
could go through my entire 260 entries and remove the parentheses and put a
dash after the area code, but I don't think the rest of the number would
then fall into line right after the dash. I don't know. If there was a way
I could just edit the entire phone number entry, this would be easy, but I
never see the rest of the number past the area code in parens and the
space; so I can't route the cursor to anything but the area code part of
the number.

Hi Paul,
That's very interesting that you aren't shown the entire number. I don't
know if this makes a difference, but when I enter a number, I enter the
area code, followed by a dash, followed by the first three digits,
followed by a dash, and then followed by the last four, if it's a number
in the U.S. However, I've never had an instance where I haven't been
shown the entire field. The QT commands I put in the post I sent were
ones that I found while looking through the manual that could be
downloaded from the Pulse Data website (CONTROL with K and READ with
Comma, I Believe), so I either could have been looking in the wrong place
of the manual, or there was an error in documentation. I've noticed that,
with KeySoft version 5.1, the cursor doesn't immediate appear unless you
start typing, so once you executed the command to modify a field, you
would have to place the cursor somewhere before editing. When you exit a
record after changing it in any way, you have to answer yes to the Confirm
Changes prompt in order for them to take effect, but when you re-enter the
record, your changes should be there. Sorry, but I really can't think of
a reason why you aren't being shown all of your fields. Does it happen to
you all the time? Once I wasn't able to see any of the fields, but a Reset
with no keys held down fixed it. It doesn't sound like your database is
corrupted or anything, but you might want to copy the record in question
to the clipboard (this option is in the Block Commands Menu of the Address
List), and read it from the clipboard to see what's actually in
there. The Clipboard File is called KeySoft, and it's fount in the root
directory (None folder or / directory) of the Flash Disk. You can request
information about the file to make sure it's the right one, and you would
be told "clipboard file"; also, you'll have to have the view of "all
files" to see it because it's not a document. If the phone number isn't
actually there, you may have done something like exiting the record
without confirming ch!
anges.
If you could edit before, and you have a backup of the database with all
your current records, you might want to copy that database over and
replace it for the old one, and that might work. I've honestly never
experienced your problem, so I can't really think of any other suggestions
for you at the moment, but I hope this helps.
