Hi,

I'm reading your email using Outlook Express and I noticed the answers in
the quizz as you correct the jibberish, were underneath the questions. I
also noticed that one of the answers had an incomplete sentence. I haven't
read everything, so I don't know if any more sentences were like that.

I also noticed some of the questions had two numbers and one of them was in
parenthesis.

To me, the easiest way to reply to quizzes would be to simply write the
answers in a separate file then email the file to the professor.

Also, the word name and Lisa were run together.

I think Lisa would save herself a lot of grief and frustration if the
answers were written in their own document. Surely the proff will be
satisfied with that method because she could read it. Why do the answers
need to be in the same document as the questions?

I think it's wonderful you took the time to show how your method works, but
the answers appear below and not beside the questions. It also sounds like
a lot of unnecessary work and time putting the answers in the same document
and translating it back and forth.

profyesterday

: Hi Lisa and everyone following this thread,
:
: First, let me answer Lisa's questions on what went wrong. Then I will
give steps on how she can deal with future quizzes that are e-mailed to her.
Below my message, I will paste Lisa's quiz, correcting the gibberish part so
that they would read right, even to a sighted person.
: When you send e-mail from your BrailleNote BT, they are written in
grade 2 Braille because this is the default keyboard Braille Grade. The BN
translates it to text when sending so that any person, blind or not, can
read it.
: On the other hand, if you receive e-mail, they are always in text.
Yes, they are in computer Braille even if it was written in grade 2 Braille
on another person's BrailleNote BT. The BrailleNote does not translate it
for you when it is downloaded because if you open it, you are using an ASCII
text file called WP Temp.txt found in the None folder of the Keysoft Systems
Disk.
: You may be asking, "Why can I read it in grade 2 Braille using the
display of my BN BT?" This is because the display is set to present computer
Braille in grade 2 Braille. But notice that if you route the cursor on a
word with Braille contraction, the word is expanded in its uncontracted
form. That is a sure indication that the text you are reading is actually
in computer Braille.
: I do not think it is a good idea to change Braille grades while
inserting text into the original message you are replying to, because I
notice that even though things read right with speech and Braille after
writing, if I exit the e-mail and open it again in the Outbox, the BN reads
some of the text inserted correctly in grade 2 Braille like it was computer
Braille. This may be what happened to your quiz Lisa so I advise that you
do not use this method again. Here's my suggestion and I use it myself when
I need to, and for me it works. Hope it will work with you also.
: Step 1. When you receive the e-mail, like your quiz from your
professor, press SPACE with s to save it.
: Step 2. The BrailleNote will tell you that the file has not been
modified. Just ignore that. Keymail will offer to save it as the WP
Temp.txt file in the None folder of the Keysoft Systems Disk. You would
want to change that because you need to save the e-mail as a Keyword Braille
document so do not press ENTER.
: Step 3. Press BACKSPACE twice and this should place you at the
"Drive?" prompt. Press f for Flash Disk. You can also press c for the
compact flash or s for the storage card if that is where you want the
Braille version of the e-mail to be saved.
: Step 4. After selecting the drive, you will be placed at the "Folder
name?" prompt. Space through your folders and press ENTER on one of them to
select a location for the Braille file. You will then be placed at the
"File name?" prompt. Type a name in grade 2 Braille and press ENTER.
: Step 5. Wait while the BrailleNote saves the e-mail and translates it
to Braille. If it is a long e-mail, then you will hear progress beeps as
the BN saves it. When it is done, it asks if you want to open the file.
Press n.
: Step 6. You are back in the e-mail you received. Press SPACE with
dots 26 to enter the E-mail Action Menu. Press r to reply to the message.
Answer the other prompts about replying to the sender only and keeping a
copy of the original message the way you want. You should then be at the
place where you can start typing your reply but do not type anything yet.
: Step 7. Be sure to have the cursor at the top of the message. If it
is not, press SPACE with l. Next, press SPACE with b to enter the Block
Commands Menu. Press i to insert a file. Select the Flash Disk (or
wherever is the Braille document you saved in steps 1 through 5), the folder
you selected in step 4, and finally, select the Braille file.
: This method will translate the e-mail you received into Braille, then
insert it into the reply, and you can then happily insert text, like your
answers to quizzes, typing in grade 2 Braille. If you are not deaf-blind,
check what you have written with speech before exiting the message, and I
strongly advise you to do this for important e-mails like answers to tests.
When you send it to someone, like your professor, the grade 2 Braille text
you inserted and typed will be translated to text so that a sighted person
can read it.
: Below is your quiz with your answers now reading in grade 2 Braille.
To correct it, I marked the gibberish part with the top and bottom block
markers, then pressed g in the Block Commands Menu. The BN asked me what
Braille grade should the block be and I pressed b for grade 2.
:
: Hope this helps,
: Kirstyn
