You can certainly use your stopwatch, to tell you how much time has elapsed, but that's completely different from a timer. First, I don't think the stopwatch can chime; second, whereas the stopwatch starts at 0, and goes up, a timer starts at, say, 5 minutes, and goes down to 0. See what I mean? They're opposites.
