Hi, Rosemary and List:
First of all, make sure the bn is fully charged.  After unplugging it, press O 
with space, then I with spacebar, press A.  It will tell you if the battery is 
inaccurate or not.  Then, press X to discharge it.  The braille display will be 
exercised in the process.  What is your battery life? Like I said, mine takes 
roughly 15 hours to discharge.  It can take a little longer than that.  hth
