Hey Diane: Hmm, that depends on the size of the books you read. However, if you figure the average size of most paperbacks, once scanned or downloaded, is about 1 to 1 and a half megabytes, you could probably put at least 2 or 3 thousand... Lots and lots of books.
What I tend to do is move them over to my PC and once I have a large enough collection, I burn a CD out of them and they get filed for future reading. Jeff
