Stacey, I use this bag while working April all the time, and it hasn't gotten in the way or anything. If you can carry a purse and work your dog, you should be able to use this bag as well. I will say though that you can't use the Braille Note while it is in the bag. Another thing is that if you have the accessory pouch connected to your braillenote case, it won't fit into the bag.
