Hi, terry, I use compact flash cards in my bn, and I have never lost any data, I even leave them in when I power it up and everything is fine.
I wonder if it has anything to do with the brand of card that some people use. I have only ever used the one brand of card and I have had no problems with it. Although sometimes I get a message saying "card inserted". I hope this information helps. Take it easy, regards Debbie.
