Check out the manual, starting at Section 13.13.
If this seems needlessly complicated to you, it does to me also.
One layer in, they're called folders; but two or more layers in, and they suddenly become directories, only accessible by switching to "directory mode" by pressing space with t.

Also, somewhere in this section of the manual, an instruction says to press the "left arrow". I assume this was missed during the editing process, and means to hit backspace.

I think PulseData should decide whether to call these things folders or directories exclusively, and keep it simple, as it is on a Windows-based PC. The last thing we need is an implied dycotomy between simple users and folders, and the world of more complex directory structures for the "power users".
