Beth:

As long as your BN/VN isn't connected to the router, you should be okay.  It
should be noted though, that if you, or any of your equipment, is in close
proximity to a direct strike, all this information may be wrong.  Any of
this high technology may be subject to the effect of large doses of statick
electricity, which is generated by lightning.  So, it is safe to say that as
long as the BN isn't connected to anything, AC adapter, phoneline, Router,
or Cable, it will be as safe as it can be.

Lightning is strange stuff, as many can attest to I'm sure.
