Hi John, What service is your friend using? It sounds like you may need to use a server with authentication. Thiss really depends on your internet provider and also how you are accessing the email account.
If you are accessing it via a dialup, it is usually pretty straight forward, but if you are accessing it from some other network such as a dsl or cable connection with a different company, you almost definitely need to use authentication. One thing you might try is to set the authentication option in the bn directory of services to "yes" and see if that helps. If not, you should probably next contact the email internet provider to obtain the correct name for their authentication servers. But, try setting the authentication option on the bn first and see what happens.
