I would just like to take this opportunity to give my input about correcting
list members. There is a vast difference between rudely pointing out the
faults of other member's posts, which is clearly unacceptable. However, simply
mentioning a person's name to give context or a reference to a message is
perfectly acceptable in my eyes. Maria and other list members have corrected
me on numerous occasions when I give incorrect info or state something
ambiguously. I welcome their criticism, not only because it gives the user the
correct information that they were looking for, but also because it causes me
to update my information or learn to rephrase things. There is a difference
between being snide and sarcastic and simply mentioning a name to get the
attention of both the original person who asked the question, and the user who
provided the incorrect information. I am afraid that in this discussion my
name has been implied as one of the people who corrects people needles
sly onlist. I'm sorry if anyone takes offence to this but I will not stop the
practice unless someone has a particular question about my language or thinks
my phrasing to condescending because I feel the usefulness outweighs the
possible conflict. I and others are simply trying to give help in the best way
we know how.
