Hi Lisa,
You can only log in to Bookshare after you become a member I think.
Before I became a member, I could download the public domain books, and I 
didn't have to log in.
All I had to do was go to the category part and download the books.
Note that this only works for the public domain books.  You will have to become 
a member to download the copyrighted books, and you will then get a password 
(which you can change if you want) and then you can log in and download all the 
books.
By the way, are you using the space with 4-6 keys to move to the controls?
