Eva, I've had this happen to me, but only a few times. Try a simple Reset. Sometimes, files that run the database engine of the Planner get moved from the KeySoft System Disk, in which case you would get the message "cannot start the planner and the alarm system" message or an "Exception Command" when checking your next appoint with [ENTER with N], [FUNCTION with N] or entering the Planner. A simple Reset should fix this, so you can properly check your next appointment and enter your Planner. Try scheduling an alarm. Then shut the unit off, and see if the alarm rings. Some listers have reported problems with their alarm such as having problems turning it off or causing it to sound when it should, and I've only experienced the latter maybe twice; I had gotten the "Cannot start the Planner and alarm system" message upon checking the next appointment, and performing a simple Reset (holding the Reset switch with no keys held down) fixed the problem, as well as allowing the alarm to sound when the unit was switched off. From what I have read, there doesn't appear to be any kind of pattern to these problems. If the Reset does not work, have your sister re-install KeySoft 5.1. Keep in mind that this doesn't mean there's a permanent problem with your alarm. It could mean that this one didn't ring, and all the others will, but do the Reset, and schedule an appointment to ring in a few minutes, shutting the unit off to see if it would works. If it doesn't re-install 5.1 and try it again to see if the alarm works. As I said, this has only happened to me maybe twice, and what I just wrote solved the problem for me. HTH.
Maria
