If you are running 4.02, as I am, you may want to try reading an e-mail.
You will be asked from which folder, choose inbox.  You should be next asked
if you want to check for new messages, or something like that, say Y.  The
BN should then connect.

I have gotten the no carrier message before, going back to the main menu, &
starting anew often fixes this.  A simple reset also may be necessary.

As for the funny speech, I have seen this as well, but afterward, everything
returns to normal, so I haven't bothered to figure it out.  I assumed that
the machine was just confused?
