Hi Lisa,
A directory is the same name as a folder, so keep that in mind as I
write.
If you think of a BrailleNote like a file cabinet, this may help. The
file utility is like the labels on the drawers of the cabinet. Let's
see, You have three huge drawers in your cabinet. One is labeled
system disk, one is labeled flashdisk and one is labeled compact flash
card.
Let's look in the flashdisk drawer. In the front of the drawer are
some posters and sheets of paper. These are in the drawer, but they
aren't in folders. These things are in the "none" folder, or they're
in the drawer that is the disk drive, but they aren't in folders. So
you have a poster called fall leaves, one called turkeys and one
called first snow. At the back of this disk drawer, you've got
several folders. One is called students, one is called office, one is
called books. These are folders, all with cardboard coveres, very
neat and organized, and each folder had a label on it.
Now, let's take out the folder named students. It's a thick folder
because it has folders inside it, 'sub-folders', or subdirectories.
If you open up the students folder you have ten folders inside this
folder: Jane, John, Sarah, Lucy, etc. Each student's folder is a
sub-folder or sub-directory of the students folder.
As to whether you create these subfolders yourself, the answer is yes.
I hope this helps to explain some?
