Hi Eva,

I've never had this happen to me, but one of my friends has.  I'm afraid this 
is a hardware issue.  Note that if you go into the Options Menu and Braille 
Display Options, your Braille display will be off, and if you attempt to turn 
it on, it will just revert to being off.  Your sister's going to have to send 
it back to be repaired, but the good news is that the unit should still be 
under warranty if she hasn't had it very long, which means the cost of the 
repair will be covered.  However, I'm positive that it's a hardware issue, so 
sorry about that.  HTH.
