When you create a Word or WP or even a .brf file from scratch and have KeyWord set up to use any of those formats by default, you are still running KeyWord. There are a few differences between using KeyWord to create a .doc, .wp5, .brf file:
1. All block markers and placemarkers will be erased when you exit the file. 2. Format markers (computer braille dollar sign fm), will be added to your .doc files. Another reason why I hate Word. 3. The .doc files are actually rtf files. If you are using a program which doesn't support rtf, you'll have to convert them to another format. DBT Win doesn't support rtf files. 4. Styles like heading, subheading, list, will not be preserved when you exit the document. 5. Automatic indents, hard page breaks, page numbering won't be preserved when you exit the document. 6. WP files are always hidden, so I must press read with x to see them. This is SO annoying! 7. Font size won't be preserved when you exit a document. So, when you open the document using your PC, you'll have to set up the fonts size AGAIN, if you are using Word. 8. Translation from print to braille such as changing the grade of braille from grade 2 to computer braille will disappear when you exit a document. So, if you are reading a document and you have added codes so all of the web addresses, email addresses, and so on will have to be added AGAIN unless you save the file as a KeyWord document. I cannot remember how DBT handles the document if you translate it into a .brf file before you open it using DBT. 9. When you open a .brf file which you have created on a BN with your PC and DBT, you may have to open it as a Duxbury coded braille file. I can't think of any other differences, but if I discover more, I'll post them. Terri Pannett, Amateur Radio call sign KF6CA. Army MARS call sign AAT9PX, California
