Has anyone written the definitive guide to using Microsoft Active Sync
with
the BrailleNote?

I have the BrailleNote BT32 classic motherboard. I am using Windows XP Pro
SP1 on one computer and Windows 2000 on another. I have not been able to
make a successful connection using the serial cable on the Windows XP
machine. I did get connected on the Windows 2000 machine several months
ago, but have been unsuccessful now.

I downloaded MS Active Sync version 3.7.1 in an attempt to get the Windows
XP computer connected. The BrailleNote has the original software Keysoft CE
version 3.03 Build: 1795.

I connect the serial cable while both the BrailleNote and computer are
turned off. One question is "Should the BrailleNote power be on or off when
I boot up the PC?"

I just added an additional serial port to the Windows XP computer so I won't
have to switch between using my external DoubleTalk synthesizer and
connecting the BrailleNote.

I start Active Sync on the PC. Then I press enter on "Get Connected." I
then press enter on "Next".
On the BrailleNote, I then press "C" from the Utilities menu. I get an error
message that I will describe in a minute. I press enter on the BrailleNote
to clear the error message. I continue to repeat the sequence of pressing
"C" and enter until Active Sync stops looking for a device to connect with.

The error message I continually get on the BrailleNote is:
Communications error: Cannot start communications with the desktop computer.
Remote networking could not start due to a critical error (error 8.00).
Please reconnect your device. If the problem persists, restart your device
us this has been automatically replied to with OK.

I appreciate any help.

Rob
