Frank,

I get the impression that you're using the free-data-space option in your 
address menu from the main menu to free up data space from your emails.  No, 
that's not the one that works for it, at least not in my system.  I hit e for 
email on the main menu, space over to set-up options in there, and return on 
free data space, after I have emptied the email trash.  I seldom bother with 
that one in addresses.
