Oh, lord, when I was younger I cannot tell you how many news articles
were written and never was I consulted and generally I was always
surprised by comments made in them.

A high school class once asked me if there were "dirty" books in braille
this was around 1970, so I said that no there were not. The article
they printed in the school newspaper said I wanted to read dirty books
in braille which was not at all what I had said. When we read that my
friends and I were rather shocked.

I know i'm joining in on a slightly off topic thread here, but Beth, in
the first case, I have been the subject of a few newspaper articles,
Etc, and not once was I presented with the material beforehand, nor were
my parents (assuming that perhaps it had to do with the fact that I was
under 18.)

Secondly, yes, Braille may be confusing to some, as may print. But do
you think you'd ever read in a mainstream article about how confusing
the ABC's ar? Yes, we shouldn't generalize in either the negative
(Braille is
confusing) OR the positive (Braille is not confusing), so the best
solution would be not to generalize at all, and, as a reporter, to keep
your opinion out of it by using such a loaded word as "confusing". That
word obviously implies that she, at least, believes Braille to be
confusing, and does not imply at all that perhaps only Karri thought it
so.

My two cents, Laura
