Hi Lisa

The speed of your froadband does not depend on the ethernet card you use.
Instead it depends what package you buy from the broadband provider. This
is similar to cable TV where you get so many channels for free, and can pay
a little bit extra for some more, and a lot extra for lots more. The speed
of dial-up is 56kbps (you don't need to know what this means). Here in the
UK companies offer midband at 128kbps (twice as fast as dial-up), or
broadband at 256kbps, 512kbps, 1024kbps or 2048kbps, which works out at 4
times, 8 times, 16 times, or 32 times faster than dial-up.

In my flat I have 512kbps, shared between two people. So if we're both
online we each get a speed 4 times faster than dial-up. Hope this answers
your question!

Subject: [Braillenote] broadband speed

Hello Listers,
Someone posted about wanting info about broadband speed. H's what I have
noticed.
When I got my BN and I first used it for email I used dial-ups. Then I
switched to a broadband service. So the BN works with the broadband service
by using the Ettheernet card hope I spelled that correctly. Anyway I am
using dial-up for the next couple of weeks and broadband is much faster than
dial-up. Not tons faster but enough that I notice a difference. I think
maybe the Ettheernet card has something to do with determining the broadband
speed or something like that I am sure someone from PDI will make this make
more sense. Anyway I like broadband better no tying up the phone line and I
can look at Web pages while talking to companies about stuff so I can look
at stuff on the Web site while I talk to a customer service representative.

Hope this helps.
Lisa
