Hello David:

I use my VN with Cox high speed data with much success. The short answer is
NO, if you are not going to be using synchronization between your BN and PC,
you will not need ActiveSync. You will need the low power either net
adapter which plugs into your rear memory slot and provides for the
attachment of an Ethernet connection to your router.

You will then need to create a directory of services entry in the email
section to allow for connection. The settings are as follows:

Service Name: your choice
Modem: Network Connection
Service User Name: your user name
Service Password: your password
email user name: leave blank if the same as above
email password: leave blank if same as above
Pop Server: the complete address of your incoming email server i.e.
pop.central.cox.net
SMTP server: the complete address of your outgoing email server i.e.
smtp.central.cox.net
SMTP authentication: Probably no, though check with our ISP
Log on to network: NO
Use software compression: Yes
Use IP Header Compression: Yes
Wait for dialTone: N
All other entries leave at their default values unless otherwise instructed
by your ISP.

Plug in your adapter, turn your unit on and you should be connected. Go to
your email menu and choose CONNECT. When prompted for "Service to call"
select the service that you just created above. You should hear the BN go
through it's usual connection scripts only somewhat faster. This same
connection sequence can be used if you want to connect to the Internet. You
do not need a separate Directory of service entry for Internet, they can
share your highspeed directory of services entry.

The only other thing I've noticed is that when the network adapter is
connected, my VN tends to slow down on startup. It might be that its trying
to connect to the router or just trying to deal with the network card in
it's memory slot. I don't know if other list users have this same issue.
I'm sure that some or all of this will change with the new 6.1 upgrades
especially as they apply to wireless.
