Folks, we are starting to drift off the topic of this list, and the
discussion we're having has moved well away from a USB port on the
BrailleNote. Please keep contributions to this list confined to the
BrailleNote. There are more general technology lists where you can discuss
wider industry issues, one such list being BlindTech. You can subscribe by

Re: [Braillenote] USB port on BN?

Hi Sarah:

Hmm, I think there are more folks going blind by the hour than you can
imagine!!! What do you think of returning soldiers from battle grounds??
The population is fairly large and will most certainly keep getting larger
until something else happens!!

I know an African country where onchocerciasis makes well over 250,000
people go blind annually. Unfortunately, the government of the country in
question DOES NOT assist with the purchase of adaptive equipment. If you
take 1500 or more Perkins Braille machines to this country this hour, they
will all be SNAPPED OFF YOU by blind folks desperately in need of
whichever
Braille production equipment they can get their hands on. Not that they
are
rich; they still have to RAISE THE FUNDS from friends and family to
purchase
them.

So, although no one wishes to see more people go blind, I seriously doubt
if
we will ever get to see this wish become untrue!!

Sincerely,
Olusegun
