Michele,
you asked:
If a zipped file is emailed to me and I use my BN as my primary tool for
downloading email, is it possble to unzip the file from the BN, or would I have
to unzip it on the PC first?
A: You can unzip some files, but not all, on the bn by renaming the zip
extension to bks and it's best to then "unpack," which is basically unzip it on
a cf card, where you can create a specific folder for that bible or whatever.
Alternatively, you can extract it on your flash disk, also in a specifically
created folder, but then you might experience a problem with too little space
on your flash disk.

If the file is a database, where would I store it before adding it to my BN, if
I downloaded and unziped it on my PC?
A: it depends, you can either unzip it directly on a cf or storage card if you
have a card reader, or you could use active synch which i have never done so
cannot help you there, or you could mail it from your pc as an attachment to a
message and detach it whereever you want to store it on your bn.

Also, how much room do attachments take on the flash disk when emails are
downloaded?
A: it will take the same amount of space than what that particular file took on
your pc, in other words, a zipped file would usually take less room than a
uncompressed ascii file. You can check the file size on your pc before you
send it. On the bn you can only check the size of the attachment either after
you have detached it into a folder, or in the attachments folder on the flash
disk if you have not detached it by pressing space with i when you stand within
the folder on the unopened file or attachment.

Do they have to be opened and stored before they take up room in themselves?
A: No, they take up room whereever they are. Thus it's better to delete the
attachment from the email after you have detached the file into a folder,
otherwise you keep duplicates.

I hope I have asked these questions in a way that people can understand. I'm
trying to download a Bible database.

I also want to know, it is possible to move attachments to the compact flash
card if there is no room on the Flash disk to store them.
A: You can detach the attachment to a card, but you cannot move the email as
such, containing the undetached file to your card. You can use the multiple
wildcard function to move the already detached files, because you cannot move
or copy a whole folder as such.
