What reason would anyone have to concoct a virus for the BrailleNote? Any
viruses already written that run on Windows CE aren't going to be any more
likely to attack this platform with the introduction of the software
development kit, thus the only way that security of the platform would be
compromised is if someone decided to go out of their way to write a virus
that specifically attacked the BrailleNote. Given the cost of the equipment
they'd have to purchase for testing purposes, it seems a costly proposition
just to cause havoc in a rather small market. In contrast, the Pocket PC
software development kit comes with an emulator, so would-be virus writers
(or would-be software developers) can test their code at no cost to them, as
the development tools are also free. Personally, I'd take the ability to do
things such as port an open source media player I've run across from the
Pocket PC to the BrailleNote, thus allowing for things like playlists and
streaming media and other things that weren't slated for the 6.0/6.1
release, given the comparatively eensy security risk that opening up the
platform to developers that likely already have the equipment would pose.

Hoping this sheds some light,
