Rosemary:

A short answer to your question goes like this, no guarantees about the
sense it makes though.  When rechargable batteries are discharged, then
recharged, a small amount of degradation occurs.  The gauge which measures
power, doesn't necessarily track this degradation.  Therefore, recalibrating
the gauge, allows for accurate measurement of battery life, etc.  If you
have never calibrated the battery, more than likely you will see great
improvement after doing so.  Before sending the unit in, or even thinking of
it, recalibrate & see what results are available.
