How do you get to the archives and about how far back do they got? The more
the merrier.

Hi Mary Ellen,

On 3 Jan 2005 at 19:09, Mary Ellen Earls spoke, thus:

The problem with that archive is that it is virtually all unusable and
inappropriate chatter. It is 75% duplicates, making it unsearchable, as a
result of consistently bad netiquette on the list over the years. Someone
wants to teach some basic rules on here! I had considered it, though, and
indeed I may resort to it if nothing should be forthcoming that I have not
already learned about this remarkable list member (Roselle). However, if
I do something I will do it to the greatest and most extreme extent, which
means downloading the entire archive, installing it into my mail structure
and indexing it, searching it on behalf of other list members for topics I
share a considerable enough interest with the rest of the list, and
reposting the pertinent messages in more-or-less verbatim and most
original form, perhaps even to the effect that you will not even recognise
that it is a repost. I do, at any rate, find the search site feature on
Google utterly incapable under the circumstances, and Mailman is not to be
blamed for this inadequacy. Perhaps Dean might consider using Gmain or
mail-archive for archival purposes - it would certainly give listmembers a
better and more usable interface, complete with search capability.

Cheers,
Sabahattin
