Hi,
The first week I found that it was a little cumbersome to get the cards in
correctly. However I can get them in quite quickly, and I realized that the
ridge is on the Memory cards. The Ambicom card is just bigger and has more
of a ridge on the front. I had a Braille lite for a very short time and the
cf cards did not have any tract to slide into , like the PK does. I find
that getting the cards into the PK much easier. You were right though they
did have to replace the mother board.

Subject: Re: [Braillenote] PK broken cf Slot

Regarding the problem with the broken slok for the cf card, I had a
conversation via email with someone recently who told me that they had
contacted PDI about this problem and was told that the cf slot is built into
the motherboard so that if the slot does break, it requires replacement of
the entire motherboard.

This person said that this can happen if you force the card into the slot
upside down and strongly suggested that I mark all my cf cards so I know
which is the top side. After this conversation I did notice that the ones I
have do have a slight ridge on the underside of the card where it sticks out
of the bn so you can tell which is the top in which is the underside. This
may be unique to this brand though which I think is Sandisk, so you might
consider putting some sort of small label towards the outer edge of the card
so there's no possibility it could get stuck in the bn.

The Ambicom wireless card has a ridge around the top side so it's quite easy
to identify it's correct position.

I haven't had the slot break, but have accidently tried putting the card in
upside down a few times and gotten the "card not recognized" message.

But, if you are careful, and especially if you make certain to put the card
in correctly you should not have a problem.

The sad thing is that all it takes is one time doing it incorrectly and
pushing a bit too hard.

I'm sure this warning goes for both the pk and bn and probably any other
device which uses a cf card.

Don
