Hi Sarah It seems to me that members on this list have a varying degree of difficulty handling messages once they have been downloaded to the bn. As for myself, my unit rarely gets sluggish. But I have heard many people say that what helps them is to read about 20 messages or so, then exit keymail, empty the trash, and reenter. As many have said, this helps to keep the bn at a more normal pace, though is also time-consuming. That's the best advice I can offer since I've never had a similar problem.
