I agree with both of these suggestions. I used to routinely upgrade my
braille and speak every year. Dean Blazie knew that I could change the chip
withut any problems; so he would send it to me whenever I would buy an upgrade.
Regarding the battery, I wouldn't mind buying my batteries from PDI. That
doesn't bother me, but paying 60 dollars so I can send in my unit overnight
and insured just to get a battery replacement is expensive.
It would be nice if the battery just had a clip rather than having to
solder connections.
For those of us who feel we can replace memory or batteries confidently,
I'd like to see a way for this to be done. Others could still just send in
their units.
I don't even mind being told that if I replace a battery or memory that if
I do it, I do it at my own risk. That's only fair. But if the batteries
could be easily replaced, why not?
If one could use a chip puller to replace a chip, why not? I wouldn't even
mind if I had to buy a chip replacement tool from PDI.

Aside from being able to record with the BrailleNote, I would like to see
two other changes:
1. The ability to UPGRADE MEMORY myself without having to SCHLEPP it and
send it to the ENDS OF THE WORLD to have new memory put in. I do that all
the time with my PC. The assumption that OPENING UP THE EQUIPMENT will
damage it because I am blind is a sad REFLECTION in my view on how
ADAPTIVE TECHNOLOGY vendors TEND TO TREAT their customers.
2. PUT IN NEW BATTERIES: We have talked about this before, but I doubt
if Pulsedata liked the idea!! I doubt if the batteries in the BrailleNote
is so special such that battery outlets where I live can't find them or be
able to replace them. Batteries Plus FOUND BATTERIES for my Braille Lite
40 and the Braille Lite's technology is behind the present moment in
time. Even watch batteries ARE NOT THAT TOO COMPLICATED to change and are
readily available everywhere. So what evidence is there to suggest tat
BrailleNote batteries CANNOT BE FOUND anywhere else except at Pulsedata??
I will concede that not everyone of us likes to dabble into what I have
commented on here, but there are those amongst us who are adept and
adventurous enough to perform these tasks; unfortunately, they can't
because their notetaker has to CROSS MANY WATERS AND DRY LANDS for a
SIMPLE--perhaps easy--battery change as well as the additional of more
memory; that's sad indeed!!!
Sincerely,
Olusegun
