Hi Yall,
I started out using cable internet, now I have DSL because the price
is much better. I found that there is little differnts to the end user
between Cable and DSL. Cable is faster, but also more expensive. Both
Cable and DSL come with Modems that connect to the line coming into your
home. Some of these modems also will do your routing and transmit to
wireless equipment. These modems are usually a little more expensive. The
modem in any case converts the Cable or DSL to regular network traffic. The
customer just has to plug a regular network cable into the modem, them into
your computer or network device. This is where you would plug your wireless
router inand then configure it for either Cable or DSL. DSL providers use a
Protocol called PPOE in order to connect and disconnect the DSL line. Today
most of the routers can talk to the modem and speak this protocol. Setting
this up is just a matter of activating it and entering a username and
password. Cable just passes the IP address onto the router and acts
transparent. I have set up a few DSL connections with SBC. They can be
frustrating to get started. However once the connection is setup DSL works
just as good as Cable at half the cost. I can help people who are
interested Just mail me of list. By the way I am not a rep for SBC.

Hi, Sarai:
I can tell you that you can currently use your 5.1 with cable. I would
think if you can do it with 5.1, you could do it with 6.1.
