Hi, I also have arthritis in my hands and find the cards difficult to remove from the back. So I do exactly what Isaac suggests here, I use the side slot with a card adaptor. It goes in easily, and a very easy press of the button removes the card. I feel uncomfortable leaving the card in the slot--for one thing either it or the adaptor runs down the battery--but I think also from my years working and teaching in the PC world of not leaving a disc in a drive, I suppose. But I know people do leave it in all the time and have no problems. I'd be concerned about the pins getting damaged, but perhaps that wouldn't be very likely in normal use.
