Hi Brian,

I have used the BrailleNote with Brltty for Linux, but please don't think
I'm an expert.<smile> One of the programmers of the Brltty software has
also written drivers for the BrailleNote to make it function with Linux. If
I remember correctly, the two middle thumb keys allow you to read by line.
Since obviously, you can't read the screen on the BrailleNote all at once,
try the left and right most thumb keys to advance the screen by window.
Once you've done the window advancement, try playing with the two middle
thumb keys again. It takes some practice, but it can be done. I was able
to install Linux
on to a totally blank hard disk with no sighted assistance by using only
Brltty and the BrailleNote. It took some practice to read all of the
prompts, but it worked!!

As for typing commands into the computer from the BrailleNote, I
don't think this is possible, or at least, I couldn't do it.<smile> When I
was installing or using Linux with Brltty, I used the regular keyboard just
to make sure that Brltty had routed the cursor correctly.

At one time, I had the documentation for the Brltty BrailleNote
driver, if you want it, I could send it to you. I would also suggest going
to the Brltty web site, I can't remember the URL right now, but if you do a
Google search it comes up as BRLTTY Home. The author puts up the
documentation there. He is very helpful and he can assist you with the
BrailleNote with Linux much better than I can.

However, if I can assist you in any way, please write to me off list
at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Best of Luck,

Beth

Subject: [Braillenote] Braillenote and Linux

Greetings, listers from Columbus, Ohio! I'm Brian Zolo from Columbus, Ohio!
I'm a computer specialist for the Department of Defense, my uncle Sam, grin!
I've been using a Braillenote 32 and have been taking some Linux training
for the last couple of weeks, Linux fundamentals and Linux system
administration, one more week, networking with Linux. We've installed the
Braille TTY drivers for the Braillenote and I can read the screen just fine,
but have a couple of questions. How can I get the Braillenote to show me
the beginning of the line, sometimes part of the line gets cut off,
secondly, how can I enter text from the Braillenote itself as opposed to
always using the desktop machine? Appreciate any suggestions, have a great
weekend! Brian Zolo (BZ) ___ To leave the BrailleNote list, send a blank
