I personally think that as of now, the braillenote, although it uses windows ce, is different in its interface than both dos and windows. The version of keysoft that ran under dos on my laptop is very much like this version of keysoft that runs under windows. In the time when dos was popular, I can see why PDI wanted to make a simpler interface for dos, and so keysoft came about. This way, a beginner learning dos wouldn't have to memorize all those commands, and keysoft was a simple alternative to dos, just as when microsoft came out with windows 3.1, that seemed to take off in the sighted world, until screen readers were created for windows 3.1. So in essence, we are running a program that was originally designed for dos on a windows based notetaker, with some upgrades and stuff to make it more windows compatible. One of the reasons why windows was probably created was not only to give the user more power but to take away the monotony of using dos commands and seeing just that dos p 1. instead of having to press read with x to show all including hidden files, why not put that in the options menu as a default option, that way we could display all hidden files all the time. The same goes for erasing files, again, if we want to erase dall files in a folder we have to press read with x twice. Why not put this in the options menu so it could always be selected as the default option if one wished it to be so. Of course the email system can be improved, the word converter updated, the file manager improved, the web browser needs updating and quite soon if it's to keep up with the more advanced websites. There's more but that's all I can think of for now. The point is, since windows was designed for ease of use, why not make keysoft or tailor it more to windows, like a sort of tightly integrated windows screen reader instead of this closed system. But, no, because if we're going to work with windows as if it were on a laptop then I might as well get one of those then. Keysoft should be made more user friendly, for example, the ability to run exe files open txt doc rtf brf and brl files from the directory in the file menu, and more. For example, I think some sort of control panel is a good idea this would give us all the options such as serial and printer and network and internet setup options all in one place. Right now, they're kind of all over? For example, to set up the printer you have to make like you're going to print or emboss a document. Also, instead of saying cap a cap b, why not have an option to raise the voice pitch for capital letters? Keysoft is easy to use already, but it can be made even simpler. For example, I think people are or most people are out of or away from using dos now, so get rid of the directory option and lets keep it simple and call directories folders and not directories. Directories are for dos, not windows.
