When I read with scrolling, I keep my left hand at the left side of the display while moving my hand all the way across to the right to read all text on the display. As soon as I'm finished reading, the display scrolls (because I set it to an appropriate speed), so I move my right hand back to the beginning of the display, move it across again, etc. I don't know how it would be possible to keep your hands in the same place and be able to read all the information that's going across all the cells of the display. As to whether it's better to scroll or read with thumb keys, that, I suppose, is your personal preference. I use the thumb keys more often because I sometimes stop to read something over again that I don't understand, and I just find it easier to not advance the display past the part in question rather than to have to stop scrolling and then go back; when I advance manually, I just have to hit the BACK thumb key once or so because I haven't moved any display widths farther away than one from the beginning of, for example, that sentence I need to reread, whereas with scrolling, by the time I realize that I need to reread it, I've gone maybe three or four windows ahead. When I read, it's not at a fixed constant speed, so half the time, I feel like I'm not understanding what I'm reading because I'm keeping up with the scrolling since I read fast but must slow down some to make sure I'm carefully absorbing and understanding what I'm reading, but if I set it too slow, I'm waiting for the display to advance (although I can move the thumb keys to advance the display past the parts I can read quickly and the scrolling function would not be stopped by that, although that, in effect, defeats the purpose of auto-scroll). Because I may need to read some parts of text slower than others to understand them, I use the thumb keys because it's just easier for me to control how fast I move the thumb keys than to have to adjust scrolling, move the display back, and maybe even stop and restart scrolling again.
