Hi Sherry:

Freeing the database space simply compacts the database into the smallest
possible package it can be. It doesn't touch any of your saved email, it
just gets rid of garbage left over from moving or deleting email.

Yes,you can delete email from the preexisting folders. When you attempt to
delete an email from a folder you created, such as "work", you will be
prompted "delete from this folder or move to trash?" If you press F, the
email will only be deleted from that folder, but left in either the sent (if
you sent it) or received (if you received it) folders. This is actually a
very good work-around, if you only want to have to worry about a sent and
received folder. The BN will not allow you to move an email message directly
from the inbox to either of these folders. But, if you move the email to an
self-created folder and then delete it from that folder, it will still
remain in either the sent or received folder. If, however, you press T from
the prompt "delete from folder or move to trash?" the email will be deleted
both from the self-created folder as well as any other self-created folder
you have made, as well as the sent or received folder, and the all folder.
PHEW!!!

The reasoning behind this is this: The one and true copy of the email
message is stored in either sent or received, and all other folders the
email is copied or moved to simply trigger the email in the original folder
to be called up. What I mean is this: If you have an email message sent to
you from a friend, and you move it to a folder called "friend", you really
only have one copy of that email, and that is stored in the received folder.
The copy in friend is simply a... eeek I don't really know how to explain
this, but it is just an image of the message that, if you were to click on
it, would bring up the original message. I guess you could equate it to a
shortcut in the windows environment.

OK so sorry that took about three hours to read. I hope it was
understandable and a tad helpful. Lol. Later, Laura

Yep. That's why I hadn't ever tried using it for email before. I get a lot
of mail everyday. But what does freeing the database do? What exactly does
it eliminate? It doesn't do anything to saved emails in folders, does it?
And can email be deleted from the system folders, like sent, received and
all? I hadn't checked that out yet, but the thought just came to me. I
always delete my sent items regularly on the PC and the deleted items are
automatically deleted when I close outlook.
