Doug,

Consider that there is quite a bit of open source software
running under Windows XP. Clearly this stuff is compiled with
something, and frequently I've seen the Microsoft tools as the something
that it is compiled with. You can download the Mozilla web browser as
either an installation kit for windows (about 12MB) or as source code
(very very huge). You can build it yourself, or get it prebuilt.

My point is this: clearly you can't redistribute Microsoft's
source code. In fact, much of what you might really want to distribute
they don't give you as a developer. But nobody can stop you from
distributing your own product any way you so choose.

I am not a lawyer and would suggest that you consult one if you
have any questions regarding Microsoft's, or anyone else's, license
agreements.

John

platform?

Jonathan, I haven't really done any major development but have done some

compiling and script work under linux. I am currently in the process of
getting a computer Science degree at Memorial University of Newfoundland
so
I will be interested in developing some software for the Braillenote
Family
when the platform is opened up. This could be an exciting time for the
BrailleNote products. What I would be interested in knowing will
development be done on the actual devices directly or will we be using a

software kit which runs under something like Windows XP?
