Hello Jim,
Thank you for your message of solidarity.<smile> Luckily, I have these
electronic books on CD-ROM disks so that I can replace the chapters that
were lost. However, at the time when the data became lost, I was on the bus
going to school and attempting to study for a quiz using those chapters and
finishing up some last minute homework using the same information. I had
always been able to open one document, then switch to another as directed in
the BrailleNote manual. However, I did this and lost two chapter of my
book. I find that it is easier in many instances to read in Braille with
the BrailleNote rather than using speech while following along in class
while everyone uses their print books because using JAWS makes it hard to
listen to the instructor teach the class at the same time. I tried several
resets, as mentioned in Matthew's message to no avail, the data was simply
gone. I am puzzled by I never, not even once, had this problem with Keysoft
5.1 but I've already had it twice using Keysoft 6.11. The only thing that
has changed is the Keysoft installation, I am using the same flash card, and
the same commands to read the data. HMMMMMMM.
By the way, my email address is [EMAIL PROTECTED] It sounds like you
lost a lot more data then I have, I am going to knock on wood that I don't
have any more of these experiences. I've taken every precaution I can think
of, but it is still happening.
Best regards, and thanks for your message.
Beth

Beth, Last week, with no warning, I lost the equivalent of twelve million
characters from my flash card, having recently very smoothly upgraded to six
point one. No warning was given that the twenty-two folders were being
erased, so that, the next time I tried to access them, it was a real shock.
I lost jokes, poems, sayings, lots of hymns, prayers, some French novels, a
Mozart piano concerto (for the second time), lists of electronic book
websites, etc., etc., etc.
What to do? In both cases, my disappeared folders and your missing
chapters, make two copies of them, either on separate flash cards or within
the BrailleNote itself, giving them slightly different file names. But ...
think a little. If these things didn't happen, what would be the point of
this wonderful BrailleNote list?
Incidentally, to make matters worse, two days ago, in putting right another
fault with the help of a techie, all my 227 e-mail addresses were erased.
So, if you feel it might be useful, or just friendly, passing on your e-mail
address off list, so as not to generate unnecessary list traffic, do please
feel free to do so. I am particularly anxious to contact Richard and
Sarah.
Anyway, Beth, those were my thoughts for what they were worth.
Warm regards,
Jim Taylor.
