The best thing to do is continuously back up by copying to your computer's hard drive, CD, flash card or some such. As you stated, you couldn't do this at the time, but if you back up every few days, you won't have to worry about your material when you have to send your unit for repairs. Keep in mind that any time you send in a piece of equipment for repair, there is always a risk of losing data. Monica Lofton professional Email:

I was hoping to upgrade to 6.11 but after this fiasco maybe not. Yes the folders contained several files. Some folders contained approximately ten files. Three of the folders were crucial to work.. I am not accusing PDI's service department of negligence. I'd just like to know why or how the files and folders disappeared. I know those foldths and files were safely on the flash disk when the unit was sent in. As for backing up info when users units are not functioning well how are us users supposed to back up info successfully? My unit had some hardware issues the battery was replaced, the Braille cells were cleaned, the thumb keys were replaced. I'm going to look into investing in some of the compact flash cards this summer. I guess what concerns me is the last two times I've sent my unit in for repair it has returned fixed for whatever it was being repaired for but yet additional problems are present. When I sent my unit in last August it came back with a dot malfunctioning on the Braille display. PDI was helpful in getting that repaired quickly. Now this issue. I could understand if all of my files and folders were missing. That would make me wonder if the flash disk had been corrupted. Missing some of the folders and files is just confusing. I'd estistmate there were originally 12 folders on the flash disk that I had created. I'm not counting those default folders the BN has on the flash disk. I estimate six folders the ones I created along with their files are gone. None of the default folders are missing. Some of the files in the missing folders were quite large for example over 60 pages in Braille. I don't know if file size is a factor. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue when the unit is returned from being repaired? Thanks for your help and your time.
