This is quite correct. The Braillenote does many things well, some it
doesn't do at all. No matter what improvements come about, it will
never be all things to all individuals. With all of the new
improvements coming, one thing that I have not seen address by PDI is
the spontaneous formatting issue which has been discussed by a number of
individuals on this list.
The sudden and unpredictable loss of data is a mightily frustrating
experience. And although any piece of technology can fail, and it
behooves anyone to back up vital information, this issue should be
addressed. Perhaps it is too intermittent for PDI to put their virtual
fingers on the cause of the problem, however I believe that some
attention to this issue would be beneficial. It is true that many have
never experienced this particular phenomenon, however for those that
have, it is quite troublesome.
Some have stated that compact flash cards should always be removed
before turning on a unit. Some have said that it doesn't seem to make
much difference. Those who have not had to deal with this one seem to
imply (no offense intended here) that the reason the problem occurs is
user error.
And, for all I know, this might be the case. However, if it is, the
errors that users have made are errors that they wouldn't have had any
reason not to make. For instance, If PDI categorically stated that one
should always remove compact flash cards before turning on the unit, or
before resetting the unit, one would be rather foolish to ignore such a
prohibition.
However, there has not been such a specific warning regarding how to
handle this issue coming from PDI.
With all the new and exciting possibilities offered by the Braillenote
PK and by the release of Keysoft version 6.1 for the current
Braillenote, I sincerely hope that this issue is addressed by PDI in
some manner.

Subject: RE: [Braillenote] USB port on BN?

We can say that the BN family should have been more mainstream, should
have USB, should be better organized, should be perfect. It's still
just a notetaker, it isn't, and never will be, a PC or laptop. There's
only so much room in the machine, and only so much we can afford to pay.
Something had to give somewhere, and not everyone is satisfied with what
we have. It's still a great little machine!

Hello Richard:

In my opinion, hind sight should have been 20-20!! How so? Before the
advent of the BrailleNote, PulseData knew that USB ports were in vogue.
The
company should have incorporated them into the BrailleNote from the
onset.
However, there is always a reason to charge more, so we'd constantly go
to
the drawing boards to re-do all the evaluations again.

Sincerely,
Olusegun
