Hi Reggie,
Yes, other routers could interfere with yours. The good news is that your
stuff is actually working for the most part, that's encouraging! I would
enable WEP in your router and type in the WEP code in your BN. This should
work and you won't need to worry about anyone else accessing your
network. I'd say, you are off to a great start. You need only iron out
the bugs now. When my wife and I are outdoors in our glider, we both
sometimes find the neighbor's router. We don't have his WEP code but his
equipment may interfere with our getting into our network unless we are
inside the house. The neighbor doesn't leave his stuff on all the time so
it isn't a big problem for us.

I am writing this on the computer since the last time I ended up with a
messed up email. I will try to re-do the questions and then update on how
it is going.
The router in our house is on top of the computer desk, way up high. It
is against a wall but the antennae are free. The desk is in a room with
no microwave. We have cell phones but no wireless phones, although I
would say a cell might be wireless (smile). Our house is brick. (I think
if we had cement blocks I would freeze to death here in Michigan since it
looks like we are not going to get summer soon. Sorry couldn't
resist. Aching for warm weather.) Yes, my husband has tried the card on
two different laptops and it works perfectly. We know he has the BN set
up correctly because Humanware helped him set it up. Well, it has been a
couple of days since I wrote my gibberish so I hope my brain remembered
all the questions! If not, ask away! (smile)
Now for the update. I have found I absolutely cannot get connected at
night. It will connect in the morning and when I get home from
work. This leads me to a question. We have folks around us with a lot of
wireless equipment. Could that interfere and if so, am I relegated to
Activesync (or maybe I'll go back to the computer?) When I went and asked
for email last night I was able to download 110 email. I was then able to
go directly to Bookshare but when I asked to download a book I received
the dreaded "Pageerror, page cannot be found. Never got connected after
that. I even could not connect sitting where I am now, right below the
router. Finally gave up. Today when I returned home from work I
downloaded 136 email out of 213. It then told me there was a 10054 error
and when I tried again a 10022 error. Pulled the card out and reset and
was able to download another 38. Gave me an error again (there were
something like 65 there) and I stopped. One thing I have noticed is that
if I take the card out between actions I might be able to do another
action. Since I have written a book, I will ask only one more
question. Would it be worth my while (if it is not my neighbors) to
reinstall 6.11 & re-do everything? Oh yes, just one more. We have
absolutely no security on the Linksys (Aldo is very nervous). Is the BN
supposed to connect even with security on? When we had the security on,
there was nothing except that it saw the router. It was Humanware who
told us to take the security off, but we need to replace it so if I cannot
connect I guess I have spent a lot of money for nothing.
Anyway, if you have gotten this far, thanks for reading. I have
appreciated all the info and possibilities and although I am feeling a
dimmer and dimmer hope of using braille, I would be grateful for any other
thoughts. Heading for bed. Five in the morning comes fast.
Reggie
