Hi Karen Here is roughly what you will need to accomplish this. you will
need the Socketcom compact flash ether net card, a cable to connect said
card, and a router. What you do is you configure the router to work with
your cable modem and all PCS including the Braille Note connect to the
router through ether net. Last year I bought a Dlink di-604 router for $49
CDN I expect you can get them cheaper now if you look around. It works fine
for what I use it for which is the connection of two computers and
occasionally the Braille Note. Basically when the cable tech comes to
install your Internet service you let him connect one of your PCS to the
cable modem and configure it to work with there service. The advantage of
being able to connect a PC directly to the modem is if you have any
problems with the service you can disconnect your router and put your PC
back in it's place to resolve the problem. When he leaves you disconnect
your PC from the modem and run a cable from the WAN port on the router to
the cable modem in it's place. You then use your web browser on the PC
which your cable technician connected to your modem when he was there and
connect to the router. The Dlink router I use has a default IP address of
192.168.0.1. So you would use Internet explorer and connect to
http://192.168.0.1. You then are asked to provide a username and password.
You will have to look in your router's manual for it's default admin
username and password. Routers from different manufacturers differ on this
point. When you have provided the password you are presented with a web
page where you configure the router. In the case of my dlink router there
is a wizard you run to set up the actual connection from the router to the
cable modem. For what ever reason if the wizard doesn't work you have to go
into the Wide area configuration or WAN configuration page and set up your
Internet connection from this page. If it is a cable service provider you
are connecting to you would most likely set the connection to get the
remote IP address and DNS information via DHCP. You will most likely have
to tell the router to clone the hardware MAC address of the PC the tech
connected to the cable modem first so the router can connect to the
service. Cable modems are filtered so they only except packets from the PC
the cable tech configures for the service. This sounds complicated but is
not hard when you do it once. I would be glad to provide assistance when
you get your router. If you are planning to upgrade to keysoft 6 I would
suggest buying a wireless router so you can use the BN wirelessly. Why not.
In that case you would need a wireless compact flash card for the BN not an
ether net card.

everyone's patience. In September, my cable company will start offering
internet service and my husband and I are jumping on that bandwagon. My
question is this? Do any of you use your BrailleNotes with a cable
connection for email and the web, and if so, what do you do? Will I need a
card of some type to hook up to the internet since I won't have a dial-up
connection? If you would like to write me privately about this, that would
