Hi Dean,

Many thanks for your continued excellent responses - much appreciated by
myself as a new PD customer!

I guessed that this is what must happen, but what is odd is that if I power
PK on without my wireless flash card inserted, I only get the battery
messages occurring at around 10% as described in the user guide, so I'm not
entirely convinced that I do have another problem with the battery! I have
on occasions had the message "Card Not Recognized" when the combined
wireless/storage flash card is inserted, and a PK re-boot sorts this one
out! I'm wondering if Robert's point which followed yours on this thread may
have some bearing, in that it's perhaps best to start up PK with no card
inserted? The other thing I was wondering is could I possibly have a faulty
card - it's one I bought from PD here in the UK when I bought the system.

Cheers.

Paul.

Hello Paul,

the explanation for the PK saying that the battery is critical when the card
is inserted is because the percentage readings and messages, are generated
from the current cell voltage, rather than a gauge as on the BrailleNote.

when you insert a CF card, the current being pulled from the battery will
increase, causing a drop in voltage. However, I believe the problem with
the BraileNote battery is a different one, which will need to be looked at
and possibly can only be resolved with a battery replacement.
